Build the System Before You Hire
New people cannot fix work that has never been clearly defined
Hiring is often presented as the answer to an overloaded owner. It creates capacity only when the role enters a business with clear expectations and workable processes.
Understanding the Issue
Define the result for which the role is responsible, how success will be measured and which decisions the person can make independently.
Document recurring steps, templates, systems and exceptions. This exposes unnecessary complexity before it is transferred to somebody else.
What Business Owners Can Do
Remove duplicated or low-value work before hiring. Otherwise, the new person is recruited merely to maintain a broken process.
Include wages or fees, equipment, software, training and management time in the financial case. Hiring should solve a defined constraint and support its full cost.
